What Wanderlaps is
A walking app that turns real everyday steps, recorded on participants' own fitness watches, into progress along a virtual route around Australia. Built and operated by Cubix IT in Melbourne, Australia, and currently in closed testing with two participants. The service is free: no advertising, and no data is ever sold.
What we collect
Only from participants, only with their consent, and only the data types they have granted. From Health Connect on their Android phone: daily step totals and exercise sessions (distance, duration, steps, calories) written by their watch. GPS routes are never read. From a connected Garmin account, where a participant has one: the health metrics Health Connect does not carry, such as sleep, heart-rate variability and resting heart rate. Sign-in is via Google and stores no profile beyond a session cookie.
Why we collect it
To compute that participant's contribution to the shared journey, their badges and statistics, and their own private health record. Nothing is used for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond running the service.
Who else sees it
Nobody. Data is never shared with third parties, never used for advertising, and never sold. Health metrics stay private to the participant they belong to: they are not shown to the other walker, and no part of the app can return one participant's health data to anyone else.
How it is stored
Health data leaves the phone only over an encrypted connection, to a private database in Australia that is encrypted at rest. Access credentials are encrypted separately. It is kept for as long as the participant uses the service.
Stopping and deleting
Health Connect access can be revoked at any time in Android Settings, or switched off inside the app; either stops all further reading immediately. Data already collected is deleted on request, promptly and completely. Email info@cubixit.com.au.
What the public can see
The public progress page shows team totals only: combined kilometres, one shared marker on the map, badge counts and cheers. It never shows who walked what, when anyone walked, individual statistics, or any health detail.
Visitors to this site
No analytics, no ad pixels, no identifying data. Tapping a cheer stores a count, not you, plus one cookie in your own browser so the button remembers. That cookie carries no identity.
